The City of Lighthouse Point will hold a Municipal Election on Tuesday, March 13, 2018, at which, qualified electors will elect three (3) City Commissioners for Seats 1, 2, and 3.

To become a candidate, you must:

Be a bona fide citizen of the United States of America.

Be a qualified elector and resident of the State of Florida and the City of Lighthouse Point for a period of not less than one year immediately preceding this election; and over the age of eighteen (18) years.

Be a registered with the Broward County Office of Voter’s Registration.

You cannot hold any other elected public office.

You cannot have been convicted of a crime involving moral turpitude.

Shall be otherwise qualified as provided in the Charter and Ordinances of the City of Lighthouse Point and the Laws of the State of Florida.

Listed below are the necessary items to qualify for the office of City Commissioner. These forms are to be submitted to the Municipal Clerk’s office, beginning at noon on January 2nd, 2018 and ending at noon on January 9th, 2018.

o Appointment of Campaign Treasurer and Designation of Campaign Depository-(DS-DE9)

NOTE: THIS FORM MUST BE FILED WITH THE CITY CLERK BEFORE YOU OPEN YOUR CAMPAIGN ACCOUNT. A candidate may appoint himself/herself as campaign treasurer. ONLY A CAMPAIGN TREASURER OR DEPUTY CAMPAIGN TREASURER IS ALLOWED TO SIGN CHECKS DRAWN UPON THE CAMPAIGN ACCOUNT.

o Two (2) checks written on campaign bank account. $50 filing fee and $18/Commissioner, 1% state assessment qualifying fee payable to the City of Lighthouse Point

Acceptable Forms of Voter ID

When voting early or voting at a polling place, Florida law requires voters to present a photo ID with signature.

ID required and checked at the polls is used solely to confirm the voter’s identity, not to verify the voter’s ID number or address. If the voter’s photo ID does not contain a signature, an additional document with signature may be used.
